Good student back accounts:

I am currently with Barclays and find it really useful as i have several accounts with them (my student account/savings/ISA) so i can move money around easily using the online banking; which is very secure and easy to use.

Barclays is good for an interest free overdraft of up to £2000 and easy to use, reliable online banking
NatWest provide a free student rail card every year for for five years
HSBC offer two years worldwide travel insurance (for first year students only)

I would advise looking into several student bank accounts to find the right one for you.

Be careful with your overdrafts, however, as many of my flatmates have gone so far into theirs that they have spent the whole of this summer trying to pay it off in time for their second year.

Look at going into your overdraft as for emergencies only, as a last resort, when your loan runs out (this really shouldn't happen though unless you are spending ridiculous amounts).

Don't use your loan to buy new clothes (girls especially here!) as another of my friends did this and now has two student overdrafts with -£1000 in each!

You can put a 'cap' on your overdraft, as i did knowing full well i am bad with money, of any amount you see fit (mine is capped at £200) so you cannot go over this amount.

A further note is too remember not to go over your overdraft limit as you will be charged by your bank - i am not certain what amounts apply for all banks but with Barclays it is an £8 charge each time.

You will have to pay back all over your overdraft before you graduate University, because as soon as you graduate that interest free account no longer exists and you will get charged an insane amount of interest.

REMEMBER OVERDRAFTS ARE NOT FREE MONEY. THEY ARE DEBT.
