Splashing Out V.s Scrimping & Saving

Just 'cause you're on a budget doesn't mean that you can't treat yourself once in a while; but you don't have to spend a fortune to get good food.

Chinese:
Saving –  Yummy’s (on Division st. next to Pizza Express) good value for money as you get MASSIVE portions, you could probably share between two if you're not starving. However, the chicken is very grisly and fatty i would advise getting pork or prawns. There's a lot of choice on the menu from typical to more traditional dishes.
Jumbo’s - a Chinese buffet with lots on offer. Prices are good if you go before 4:30 and a 10% discount for students. But the quality of food isn't great as it's been sitting there a while - especially with the starters (anything in batter/ribs).
Splashing out - Harmony CafĂ©: hardly the Ritz prices, but compared to Yummy's & Jumbo's it seems rather pricey for a Chinese.  The food here is delicious and with a wide variety of dishes. Yet, it's let down by the service you receive. The service isn't exactly welcoming and friendly, ordering a take-away seems to anger the manager, who normally serves me, making you stand out of sight from the other customers - this is normally is a small corner, so you feel like an idiot being stared at by the other customers. My flat mate has even been told to wait outside the restaurant until her takeaway was ready as she was 'taking up too much room inside'. Also to remember it is "cash only", i soon figured this out as i seemed to anger the woman further still asking if i could pay on card.

Indian:
Saving - there's a nice little Indian on West Street that does good weekday and early bird deals. The last time i checked it was under £10 for three courses. The service is good and the staff are friendly, not rushing you and always on hand if you want something else. If you want a quiet romantic night out then from Monday - Thursday the place is almost empty; Friday - Sunday it is normally really busy, and the prices also shoot up.
Splashing Out - Aagrah. If you're going to splash the cash this is the place to do it. This seemingly small Indian restaurant, situated under Wagamama's in Leopold Sq., has been visited by top chefs and has recommendations from Gordon Ramsey himself. The food here is excellent, the choice not only wide and varied, but many dishes i had never tried before, like many of the house specialities. Definitely somewhere to take someone special/go for a birthday.

Italian:
Sheffield definitely doesn't have a shortage of Italian resturants..
including Mama & Leonies, Pizza Express, Ask, Strada, BB's, Gusto Italiano, Piccolino, Popolo, Zizi's all within walking distance from each other. The cheaper of the bunch are Mama & Leonies, Pizza Express, Gusto Italiano & BB's; Strada, Piccolino, Popolo, Zizi's & Ask are slightly more expensive but do tend have more interesting dishes. Yet, for the more expensive Italian's, the majority situated in Leopold Sq., there are several deals to be had on websites, for example on KGB Deals i often get 2-4-1 deals with Strada, Zizi's and Pizza Express. Although, Mamma & Leonies is one of my favourite Italian's; it is quite quaint and always full, and the generous helpings make it well worth the price.

Pub Grub:
The most obvious choice for those on a budget is Wetherspoons/Yates/Lloyds, luckily they are all in the city centre right next door to each other! Yates' often has a £1.99 deal on, previously it's been "banger's & mash" and "cheese burger and chips". The Cavendish Pub on West Street also has good deals, being a Scream pub it offers beer and a burger from £5 and 2-meals-for-£6. If you get a Yellow Card for The Cavendish, it can be used in any Scream pub, and then you can also get cheaper drinks.
Splashing Out - Henry's serve the best club sandwich i have ever had, lots of traditional English dishes done to perfection. The Frog and Parrot has good burgers, a bit more expensive than a Wetherspoon’s but slightly better quality of meat.

Best Places to Eat:
Leopold Square if you fancy splashing out a little then this is the place to do it. A whole range of cuisine from Indian to a good steak.
Eccellsall Road (more commonly called Eccy Rd.) has a wide range of pubs and restaurants ideal for a romantic meal or a good pint. Some include: The Pampona, Yankees, Wetherspoons, The Nursery Tavern, Toby Carvery, The Botanical, Champs...etc.
